Depending on the state, Workers’ compensation laws and requirements may be different, but in general, any business who has employees is required to have workers’ compensation insurance coverage. This protects the business when an employee gets hurt on the job by covering lost wages and medical care.
In the state of Tennessee, it is required for almost every industry to have Worker’s compensation coverage if the business employs five or more people. These are five employees who either work full-time or part-time.
Four types of issues that are not covered by Work Comp are:
- Injuries from repetitious mental trauma
- Injuries suffered during participation in an off-duty recreational activity
- Injuries suffered when an employee’s conduct violates company policy
- Injuries suffered while a worker was committing a serious crime.
